Active balancing transfers energy from cells with higher energy to those with lower energy, achieving voltage balance with minimal energy loss. It operates continuously, regardless of charging, discharging, or idle states, until the voltage difference is within a set range.
Since it involves energy transfer without heat generation, active balancing can use larger currents (commonly 1-2A) without affecting cooling. It is more suitable for larger capacity battery packs due to longer balancing times and higher currents.
